The Project

This scheme is a five-bedroom, high specification home in a village location in Hindhead, Surrey developed by MJE Properties for market sale.

The Solution

This ultra-low energy executive residence was built and watertight in only four days, ready for fitting out, using the TALO offsite timber superstructure system and with only two operatives and a crane driver. This gave the developer the benefit of more time to focus on the high specification finishes, internally and externally.

Blending Contemporary Design with Sustainable Living

This new home successfully blends contemporary design with eco-conscious living. As with every TALO project, this property was built to exceed Passivhaus energy standards, which means significantly reduced energy bills for the homeowner.

It has thermally efficient timber doors and triple glazed windows that were pre-installed in the TALO factory to achieve a higher standard of finish. The energy strategy also included solar panels, EV charging and higher levels of insulation pre-installed within the timber superstructure.

Architectural Design

Externally, the home is clad in brickwork and stone to complement the local architecture.

Set within a one-acre plot, the property has five well-proportioned double bedrooms, two reception rooms and a triple-aspect dining kitchen with shaker-style fitted furniture. The entrance hall features striking floor-to-ceiling windows and there are double-aspect sliding doors to frame the garden views from the living room.

Showcasing Design Flexibility

The Thursdays project demonstrates the design flexibility of TALO’s offsite system. We use the same energy-efficient timber superstructure solution regardless of tenure – for large executive homes such as this development as we would for terraced housing for social rent.

Insight

Warren McMurray, Director, C7 Architects

More housebuilders and developers should be looking at TALO to reduce their build programmes and in turn deliver more homes. To meet the Government’s 1.5m housing target, as an industry, we collectively need to speed up the build process wherever possible.

The time saving that TALO’s system can achieve is quite remarkable. On our latest new build project to use this system, it took just four days to go from foundations to a watertight home – which would normally take six months using traditional brick and block construction. The quality of the build is also excellent as is the overall look and feel of the finished home.
This is a fantastic system!”
