New Ultra Low-energy Rural Family Home is Built and Watertight in Less than Four Days

The Wishanger project - an ultra-low energy rural family home near Farnham

A new ultra-low energy family home has been built by TALO near Farnham in Surrey in less than four days, ready for fitting out.

This is a replacement dwelling in the area of the rural Wishanger Estate near the picturesque village of Churt.

The property has been designed for low energy living and to achieve a low carbon footprint and high build quality standards.

The ground conditions of the site were a significant challenge for traditional foundations, with a high water table, an underground stream, and close to wet meadowland. This leant itself very well to the ICW-accredited TALO shallow foundation system.

Our lightweight, standardised foundation solution uses aggregate and structural EPS to significantly reduce the amount of concrete and waste to landfill. It provides a well-insulated base that is rapidly constructed to millimetre precision ready for installation of the TALO timber superstructure system.

According to energy performance specialists Mesh, the new home is predicted to achieve an EPC A(98) rating.

As with all TALO homes, the new property will have MVHR, solar panels and a battery package to power electric underfloor heating to the ground floor and bathrooms. This energy solution combined with the superior thermal performance and air tightness of the TALO offsite superstructure system means it will exceed both Building Regulations requirements and Passivhaus standards at no cost premium.

The finished home will have light-coloured render to the ground floor, vertical timber cladding and slate roof tiles to reflect the surrounding area. It will have two bedrooms with a study/occasional third bedroom, a single storey plant room and ground floor kitchen, living and dining space.
